Norfolk, VA. (The Weekly Vice) -- Heaven Smith, a 21 year old Norfolk, Va. woman has been arrested and charged with murder in an apparent plot to starve her children to death.
One child, Miracle Bryant, is now dead. The other child, Heaven Bryant has been hospitalized in critical condition. Police believe Smith deprived the children of nourishment in an apparent effort to neglect and starve the two children to death.
An autopsy on the child who died was ruled a homicide, due to malnutrition.
Smith has now been charged with 1st degree murder, in the death of Miracle. Smith is also charged with 2 felony counts of neglect.
Cory Bryant, the 21 year old father of the children, called police after just arriving home from a three week long deployment. He was also arrested by police and charged with two felony counts of neglect. [wait, didn't he call it in? Wasn't he gone?]
The Weekly Vice Opinion:
It looks to us like Smith, who appears to have never missed a meal, decided to starve the kids while her husband was deployed. She likely began starving the kids just as soon as he left, which would mean those kids have become skeletons.
Imagine begging for food or water for three long weeks. How does any human being sleep knowing they are murdering their kid in perhaps the most agonizing way one day at a time?
This gets to the very edge of how twisted some people can become. Torturing kids to death deserves the very gravest punishments we think.

This is very sad. I worked with the father in the Navy, and know he would never do anything like this. He loved those girls more than life itself. In his picture, he looks like he was probably crying and had to stop. It breaks my heart to know one of those girls is dead, and hits home harder when you know one.
We're still a bit puzzled as to why he's been charged - unless the police have arrested him, until they can research the case further - as a precautionary step.
It seems to us that he called just as soon as he got back and saw what had happened... We'll see. The other girl will need a good parent if she survives.
i just want to say to heaven, keep your haed up. i love you always. and that corey you can rot in hell caus ei know you had something to do with this.
Is there an update out there on this case yet? Just curious.
Corey is being charged because the babies were malnourished for months. not just the 3 weeks while he was gone. and in other news reports it states that Heaven called him every day and telling him about how the babies were losing weight and he didnt do anything about it.
