East Naples, Fla. ( The Weekly Vice ) -- It's time once again to pick a winner for our bad Mother of the week. A few days ago we featured a story about couple who had locked their babies in a concrete based room with nothing more than a bottle of curdled milk. This week, such conditions will seem like heaven to this woman's poor children. Read on and see if you agree. Evelyn Mora. The 'mommy dearest' of coke addicted white trash.
Evelyn Mora, a 25 year old East Naples, Florida mother of twin boys has been arrested on charges of child neglect and possession of drug paraphernalia following a visit to her home from local police.
Let's back up and start from the beginning.
Early Sunday morning, a passing driver noticed a three year old child walking alone in a drainage ditch. Upon closer inspection, the driver noted the child was filthy and covered in insect bites.
The drainage ditch was near an abandoned apartment complex that is increasing inhabited by groups of homeless persons, so the driver called police.
When police arrived, the boy directed them to his home, where police found toys, bikes, roller skates and an unkempt baby pool in the front yard. Nothing however prepared them for the horror which lurked inside the child's home.
Police knocked on the home's half open door and got no response. After knocking hard several times and calling for the child's parent, a disheveled Mora stumbled out of a back room. Bloodshot eyes and a "slept in" dress was the first impression authorities got of the the child's mother.
While talking to Mora, authorities began to notice the inside of the house, which appeared to be a disaster pit. Officers asked the unemployed Mora if they could enter the home and Mora agreed, explaining that she had lived in the home for about four months.
Upon closer inspection, officers noted that the residence had no running water or electricity. Mora had an answer for that. She told officers that she had not had electricity in the home for weeks because she was planning to move. [ghetto talk for 'awaiting eviction'].
According to the police affidavit, authorities moved to Mora's bedroom, where they found more surprises. Inside the room, the officer found empty beer bottles, moldy pizza on a bookshelf, cigarette butts littered across the floor, marijuana rolling papers and a hand roller.
Moving to the kitchen, officers found more good housekeeping practices. More empty beer bottles, strewn cigarette butts and moldy, spoiled food that littered the counter tops, sink and microwave. The report noted an 'overwhelming' odor from the spoiled food that had been left about.
In a back bedroom, officers found unattended burning candles next to a baggie which contained the residue of a white substance. A marijuana pipe was found on top of a pile of dirty laundry and children's toys.
The same white substance was found on a couch which was also cluttered with children's toys.
In the arresting affidavit, police also noted dead roaches on the floor. While officers inspected the residence, they watched Mora's other three year old pick up a discarded ketchup packet and squeeze the contents into his mouth. [It was likely the only unspoiled thing in the house to eat].
Police then inspected the home's bathroom. Yes, things get a bit worse.
In the bathroom, officers found the bathtub filled with 'blackish' water, with human feces smeared about. A snorting straw was found also covered with human feces.
We could go on of course, but for the sake of those who have yet to eat, we'll throw the anchor down here.
Needless to say, authorities took both children out of the home and placed them with the Florida Department of Children and Families.
They also arrested Mora on a charge of felony child neglect and one count of possession of narcotics paraphernalia.
Incidentally, Mora's next door neighbor commented to reporters that Mora had a roommate and had planned to move because her landlord was giving her "Too many problems".
The Weekly Vice Opinion:
We doubt the owners of the home will be sad to see Mora go. It really doesn't get much worse than a house that is so trashed, even the cockroaches die.
What seems worse is Mora's obvious devotion to her own looks, as seen in her MySpace page, while her kids roam the gutters covered in flea bites.
We don't think 'disgusting' quite describes this coke addicted, child neglecting burn out of a mother. Anyone beg to differ?
