Westin, WI ( The Weekly Vice ) -- Two parents who's daughter became sick with a treatable diabetic illness have been charged with homicide after refusing medical care for their 11 year old girl.
Dale and Leilani Neumann were charged today with 2nd-degree reckless homicide.
According to medical examiners, little Madeline Neumann became ill with a treatable diabetic illness that eventually claimed the girl's life. An autopsy determined that Madeline died from an undiagnosed diabetic ketoacidosis.
According to police, the Neumanns refused to take Madeline to the doctor, despite apparent signs of illness, opting instead to pray for healing.
According to court documents, Leilani Neumann said in a written statement to police that she never considered taking the girl to a doctor.
"We just thought it was a spiritual attack and we prayed for her. My husband Dale was crying and mentioned taking Kara to the doctor and I said, 'The Lord's going to heal her,' and we continued to pray," she wrote.
According to the court documents, the child's father Dale sent an e-mail out that stated, "Help our daughter needs emergency prayer!!!!." He also wrote that his daughter was "very weak and pale at the moment with hardly any strength."
Friends and family reportedly begged the parents to take Madeline to the doctor, however the Neumanns refused, claiming that the illness was "a test of faith for the Neumann family."
After Madeline passed, authorities advised the parents that their daughter would be taken to Madison for an autopsy the next day, but the parents responded "You won't need to do that. She will be alive by then".
One relative told police that the girl's mother believed she "died because the devil is trying to stop Leilani from starting her own ministry," the complaint said.
The Weekly Vice Opinion:
We could go on with various quotes from these two numb skull parents, but we're confident the readers have gotten the gist of the story.
The only good that comes out of this entire situation is that these mutantly stupid parents will be locked up in jail, unable to start a ministry that ends up killing other kids.
Using faith as a means to disconnect one's brain from reality is a sad distortion of real faith.
God gives parents a perfectly good brain to figure out what's going on with our kids so we are able to protect them, not subject them to torment. It's truly sad that extreme cults like this parade such blatant idiocy under the guise of 'being faithful'.
We'd like to close out this post by dedicating the day to Madeline, who bravely hung in there for as long as she could, while her cruel, heartless and inadequate parents let her die.
While her child was in pain, this mother worried more about her own little ministry - which is precisely the direct opposite of what biblical love is all about. Serving one another, instead of one's self and one's own haughty endeavors.
Please rest in peace Madeline.... You are in a better place now, but will be missed by those who love you.
