James Vidito - Shoplifter Resists Arrest, Claiming It Was Just A Dare

Framingham, MA (The Weekly Vice) -- James Vidito, a 20 year old resident was arrested for theft when he attempted to shoplift a $100 pair of boots. He objected to the arrest however, claiming that it was all a misunderstanding and that his attempted theft was merely a prank.

When police arrived at the store, they found Vidito fighting with security personnel who were assisted by two customers who were required to keep Vidito from fleeing.

The security officer on duty said that Vidito grabbed a pair of Timberland boots off the shelf, put them on, boxed up his old shoes and put them back on the shelf. He then tried to walk out of the store.

When store security attempted to stop him, they say Vidito resisted. "He tried to run and he pushed the security officer as he tried to run away," said the security officer. "Two other shoppers helped. He bit the security officer on the arm, but did not injure him. He tried biting the officer on the hand, but he missed."

Vidito, claims that earlier in the day he met several men who dared him to steal the boots, although he could not identify the men and didn't know who they were.

Vidito has been charged with theft, assault/battery and disorderly conduct. Police later found Vidito in possession of marijuana that they found in his pocket which resulted in another charge of possession.

After pleading guilty, Vidito was released from jail without bond pending a March court appearance for sentencing.
