Laurens, SC (The Weekly Vice) -- Allena Williams Ward, a 24 year old former middle school teacher was sentenced today after confessing to the sexual assault of 5 under aged boys.
The Married 7th grade teacher was arrested back in February of 2007 when school officials found a sexually explicit note Ward had authored to a student at the school.
Investigators found that the teacher had multiple sexual encounters with 14 and 15 year old boys in various locations, including the school, a local motel, behind a restaurant and in a park. The events occurred over the course of several months beginning in November of 2006.
Most of the boys were students of Bell Middle School; however one of the boys attended another school which has not been named.
Ward, who plead guilty on September 6th, 2007 to three counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor and three counts of lewd acts on a minor.
She appeared again today (Tuesday) for sentencing, after spending the intervening time under house arrest with an electronic monitoring device.
A tearful Allena Ward, who is also a minister's daughter, asked the community to forgive her. She also apologized to the victim's families, the school and the Judge presiding over the case.
The Judge didn't seem as interested in forgiveness. He sentenced Ward to 15 years for each count, requiring that she serve 6 years of them in prison (to run concurrently). The Judge also required that she serve a minimum of 85% of that sentence before she may be considered for parole.
